*** OUT OF STOCK ***
Snack Ohm Tapes did (sic) decide to release a new edition of the northern norwegian compilation-tape "Null Problem" from 1982 - in 2000, renowned as a classic among enthusiasts of norwegian punkrock. This new edition CD contains more than 30 great songs from 16 bands ; from different parts of northern Norway. There are also included a couple of bonus-tracks that did not appear in the 82-release. The musical variety in this CD is enormous; everything from illustrious pop-tunes, experimental rock, new wave, and punk are represented here. The CD also includes a written documentation (by Tore Stemland) of the long lasting conflict between the northern-based rock-scene and the capital music-media (sot.rocks)

LIVSTID / GREED - SPLIT CD - €10,5 / 100NOK

Today I would like to tell you about two great bands from completely different parts of the world. First one is a Mexican band GreeD and the second one is Norwegian band Livstid. They have met in a CD called "Broken World", also designed as a gatefold with an interesting info list where you can find all the lyrics, so you can scream along with them bands, heh (...) Young Mexican band GreeD, as far as I know, is a project of one of the bosses of a human organ's local market (Diablos rec/Oxidised Razor). They introduced four tracks on this split. They sound like a great raw crust full of hate towards the world around us with its politics, money and lust for power!  (http://goodguysgogrind.blogspot.com)
Livstid; A fist of frenzied punk, played fast, hard and with the dedication required of a band bearing a real agenda. Hails from Bergen, Norway. (livstid.bandcamp.com)

BEINKJØR - ROCK FOR RUS - €10,5 / 100NOK

Almost a punk/rock masterpiece. 18 songs.

(tigernet.no)

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - AMAZING SPACE - €10,5 / 100NOK

Collection of singles, b-sides and alternative versions of previous released GWF songs. 17 TRACKS

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - DOWN & OUT - €10,5 / 100NOK

The song "Rocky Road To London" from this album was featured in the movie Boondock Saints 2 All Saints Day. Studio album released in 2006. 13 TRACKS

All the offerings on this release are very nicely done, melodic and well balanced. The signature of this band are the vocals of Arvid Grov. His raspy vocals are a perfect front to the tracks and are a recognizable trademark of the band. Agnes Skollevoll's whistle is a great accompanyment as well and added in the right doses. The rest of the outfit rounds out the sound very nicely.

There are some great songs on this CD. Highlight tracks are "Hit The Ground", "The Rocky Roads Of London","Punk Shanty" and my personal favorite, "Brody". There's also a nice instrumental in "City of Angels".

If you're a fan of the Whalefishers or are looking something to start your GWF collection, this is a good one to get. You'll be rewarded with almost 40 minutes of good times! (shitenonions.com)

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - LOBOVILLE - €10,5 / 100NOK

Loboville is rated among the 10 best paddy punk albums EVER by Shite N´ Onions. Studio album released in 2001. 11 TRACKS

If Rambles allowed one-word reviews, the only one this CD would need is -- WOW!
Within seconds of this CD starting I stopped my player and took it off. I was 100% sure I had mistakenly put one of my Pogues albums on by mistake. But there was no mistake, the Greenland Whalefishers out-Pogues the Pogues.
The songs, the production, the inlay booklet all scream an Irish album, but this CD comes from Bergen, Norway, and the group consists of Agnes, Gunnar, Tommy, Orjan, Arvid, Odin and Stig. The booklet features some beautiful Irish imagery and the voice could be Shane McGowan. Make these points as a compliment to this fantastic group and their CD. This is not a tribute band, it is a wild and wonderful group AND they have written all the songs themselves -- no mean feat.
Many of the tunes have that slightly familiar sound but the words are new and top class.
The title track, "Loboville," sets the pace with what can only be described as a rollicking, driven song. "Johnny Lee Roth" is an unusual title but the song is fascinating. It begins like a song of perhaps a century ago, telling a tale with lines from many familiar Irish songs. But two minutes later it takes off at breakneck speed to leave even an armchair listener gulping for breath.
"Jane's Tragedy" shows the soulful side with a quieter and very thoughtful story in song, given extra pathos by some excellent musical backing. "July Morning" can only be described as manic. One can imagine the madness of an audience at a live performance -- something I would love to witness.
"The Mutineer" is another story song spanning centuries in five verses. What amazed me here was the 1:27 instrumental intro, which would stand out as a track by itself. "Elizabeth" is a fabulous fast-paced song, but with lyrics that most artists would sing as a sad ballad. The story itself is weird and wonderful, happy, sad and witty.
"Hole in Our Hearts" is the final track and has a sound completely different from the other songs featured here. It is unusual in that it's sung from the perspective of a band at the end of a concert or session. It amazes because after all the manic driven music, it slows everything down and features initially a single voice that changes to a choral singalong.
Loboville should feature an "Audience Advisory" label not only because almost every forbidden four-letter word surfaces at some time in the range of songs, it should also be kept away from grannies whose hips need to avoid foot-tapping, gents who should avoid excitement and anyone who sweats too easily. As I said -- WOW! (rambles.net)

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - THE MAINSTREET SWORD - €10,5 / 100NOK

The comparison to Shane MacGowan and the Pogues is unavoidable. The band blends Irish traditional music with a vigorous punk-rock bent, and Arvid Grov's vocals are without question an echo of MacGowan at his peak.
But Greenland Whalefishers are certainly their own band. Based in Bergen, Norway (where, if memory serves, the drizzle is perpetual), the band slams out a sound full of piss and whiskey, with energy and attitude to spare.

Grov, besides being the gravel-voiced singer, is also the pen behind a majority of the songs on The Mainstreet Sword, their first album. The songs are great fun, and as soon as you figure out the words you can expect to be slamming pints and singing along with every ounce of your Guinness-soaked gusto. (...)

If you like the Pogues, you'll like this a lot. But, no fears, the Greenland Whalers aren't just a retread band; the original material and the fun-filled approach to their music earns them a spotlight all on their own. (rambles.net)

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - SONGS FROM THE BUNKER - €10,5 / 100NOK

CD including music video for the song "Waiting". Sudio album released in 2010. 15 TRACKS

The latest Greenland Whalefishers album is finally here and fans of the Norwegian Celtic band will be pleased! We may never get new material from The Pogues but there’s always the Greenland Whalefishers to fill in that void for us!
(...)
The new album starts off with a minute intro that sounds pretty good! Then something jumbled and incoherent from Arvid I presume. “The Guest” and “Waiting” are the beginning tracks, and definitely stand out from the rest. The band sound top notch as always, with Arvid sounding growlier this time around. I actually don’t mind that at all. It’s Celtic punk rock after all; this isn’t American Idol or something. The fast tracks are always fun to listen, but I also love their slower tracks. This album, “I Just Saw You” is an instant favorite of mine. It makes me want to sway back and forth with my girl. Their older songs like “Thirsty Cave” and “Hole in Our Hearts” also make me want to sway too.
Besides sounding like the Pogues, I always felt Greenland Whalefishers were one of the best Celtic bands that stood out from the batch. They write catchy songs with an edge, and seem to know what they are doing. After all, they have been playing as a band since 1993. (readjunk.com)

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - STREETS OF SALVATION - €10,5 / 100NOK

Studio album released in 2004. 12 TRACKS

Well, it's a rather mixed album, containing both rollicking rock n' roll paddy type tunes (try "Limp Joe's Story", "The Night Rick Holder Died", "The Party's Over" and "The Escape", the latter two being my favourite tracks on the album) and slower ballads such as "Lost in Paradise" (Track 4.) The last track, "For Bitter & Whiskey" sounds a bit like one of those football chants ("Three lions on a shirt…") Also on the album is a version of "Fields of Athenry" and "The Great Exercise Day/ The Day After". Don't be fooled by the slow-beginning of the latter; the tune erupts mid-song into the frenzied playing and singing characteristic of GWF. All in all, "Streets of Salvation" is a good album; it reflects all the hard work put into the making of it, as well as a good-natured experimentation with the fusing of different tunes and styles. I think my favourite GWF album is still "The Mainstreet Sword"- it's simply fantastic!- but their latest album should be a must for any GWF fan or folk junkie.  (folkworld.de)

GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS - THE THIRSTY CAVE - €10,5 / 100NOK

The Thirsty Cave - CD limited special edition digipack. Studio album 2016. 10 Tracks. Booklet with pictures and lyrics. ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2015! : celtc-rock .de “This is a tremendously good album and I feel it is the Greenland Whalefishers best release to date. Without a doubt “The Thirsty Cave” will leave the listener thirsty for more!” Paddy Rock Radio ( Pennsylvania USA ) “After 20 years, Greenland Whalefishers new album is as fresh as their earlier material. I’d say that a Greenland Whalefisher album is like a Harry Hole novel by Jo Nesbø. They never let us down and we (the fans) enjoy it from the beginning to the end. Norway’s best exports.” Celtic-Folk-Punk ( Spain ) (bnsbm.powweb.com)

LUCKY MALICE - YOUNG AND BREASTLESS EP - €7,5 / 70NOK

"Lucky Malice fra Halden er nok et av ytterst få norske jenteband som med hånda på hjertet kan si at de mener det de holder på med. Og det beviser de lett med sin EP ”Young And Breastless” (TK, 2008). De har også figurert på en split-utgivelse med Göttemia som kom ut i 2010. Lucky Malice får mye oppmerksomhet for sine liveopptredener, og begynner etter hvert å få et godt fotfeste i musikknorge." (kraftpest.com) 5 songs on Tonehjulet Kräftpest

MT SIX - POP SEX - €10,5 / 100NOK

Electrobilly! Yes, electronica (keyboards that is) and rockabilly combined. Guaranteed something you've never, ever heard before. And never will hear again.

Rosa vinyl.
Sikker vinner på fest! (hitme.mystore3.no)
(nrk.no/urort)

SUGAR LOUISE - EVERYTHINGS BETTER WITH SUGAR - €15,5 / 150NOK

Facing an audience, you don’t necessarily have to be the greatest band in the world, but it’s essential to act like you are. Sugar Louise is that kind of band!
– Ole Jacob Hoel, Adressa (N).
Since their first appearance in the Norwegian underground in 2009, Sugar Louise have delivered spectacular live-shows, with catchy tunes, soap bubbles and free candy for the audience. Last summer they released the single "Baby (You Never Call Me Crazy)", on their own label Naked Hollywood Records. To get airplay and attention they combined the release with launching their own, international red letter-day called “Burn Your Bono Day”, hoping to give everyone a day off work to clean out the crap from their record-collections. During this last year they’ve played a solid amount of shows, covering everything from small clubs and prisons to 5000 dancing people at the City Square.
On the 28th of April Sugar Louise released their first album "Everything's Better With Sugar" (NHR004). To promote the album, the band did no less than 24 shows in 24 hours in their hometown Trondheim.
Sugar Louise brightens up your winter darkness and light fire to your summer BBQ. With their anti-depressive 3-chord punkrock, with clear references to bands such as NOFX, The Ramones and The Boys, these Norwegians ignite the dreams of endless summer romances and all year bathing temperatures over 25 degrees Celsius! (cdbaby.com)

SUGAR LOUISE - FRIENDS IN LOVE PLACES - €15,5 / 150NOK

Friends In Love Places is the second album from Norway´s finest candypunks Sugar Louise. It´s everything you liked about their first album, but more of it, and better. A happy-go-lucky album with deep undertones of lost love, lost friends and lost times. (cdbaby.com)
Bandet frå Trondheim fortset i same retninga som på debuten frå 2011, ”Everything’s Better With Sugar”. Berre denne gongen litt mindre sukra. Dei er meir engelske i stilen denne gongen. Tidvis ein blanding av The Clash og The Ramones (Sjekk ut "Johnny & Mary" for sistnemde). Som til dømes "On The Radio",”HBO” og "You Call It Love". Dei er framleis like herleg stupide. ”He’s just a lonely masturbator, he calls you up at half past four”. Og då seier eg takk for meg. Ei verkeleg flott plate, igjen, frå Sugar Louise. (firdaposten.no)

TEAR THEM DOWN - ABIDE - €2,5 / 20NOK

Tear Them Down are a four-piece punk band hailing from Sweden. “Abide” is their latest EP release and is one hell of a kick ass EP.

Fans of 90s Fat Wreck Chord punk rock will definitely dig “Abide”. After trudging through one uninteresting album after another for review, “Abide” slapped me in the face with its furious melodic punk rock and blazing guitar riffs. It was a welcoming breath of fresh punk rock air.

As with most raucous punk rock, the EP comes in at barely ten minutes long but that’s more than enough to make Tear Them Down a band to take notice of.

Bottom Line: Punk rock in vein of early Bouncing Souls, Frenzal Rhomb and Face To Face. (readjunk.com)

TEAR THEM DOWN - THEIR FAULT. OUR PROBLEM - €5,5 / 50NOK

Sweden always seems to prove that they can produce some of the most underrated punk bands of our day. Bands like Millencolin and No Fun at All were popular, yet never fully appreciated. Following in their footsteps is Tear Them Down, who released their first full length album, Their Fault, Our Problem, in January 2014. It deserves to be recognized as one of the best albums of 2014 because, not only is it catchy, aggressive, and fluid…it is unique. You don’t hear a new record like this anymore. Tear Them Down is doing something bold and rare, and it deserves a listen.

I had the privilege to review Tear Them Down’s EP, This Is Mutiny!, and this full length is the perfect follow up to that. From the beginning song “Bomb City,” I knew that I would be singing along by the second time I listened to it. The song was the single to promote Their Fault, Our Problem and it is super catchy and dancey, creating a perfect sample of the entire album. After that, every song just flows into the next and is all simple punk rock music with a lyrical drive. Tear Them Down is a political punk band and, throughout the album, there are clear and subliminal political messages they are trying to send, which suits their album title. (...)
Tear Them Down is an up-and-coming band that is worth checking out before they explode into popularity. Their Fault, Our Problem was released on Plunk Records in January 2014 and can be streamed in full here at For the Love of Punk. (fortheloveofpunk.com)

TöXIK DEATH - SPEED METAL HELL - €11 / 100NOK

Töxik Death is interested in neither progression nor sophistication, and it seems eminently likely that they’d keep thrashing out this gleeful noise in some scuzzy practice space in Norway whether or not any damn fool such as yourself is out there listening. In fact, they’re probably doing it right now, so shut your sandwich-hole, open your dogbreath ears, and see if you can’t just make out the strains of the spool-length guitar solo that closes “Highway Warrior” floating on the aerial currents from Sandnes to wherever you’ve planted your silly bones. Your city is guilty: the crime is life; the sentence is death -- Speed Metal Hell descends. (http://lastrit.es) Read the entire review here
